Well, as the title so obviously points out, I'll be talking about birthdays today, since September is the month in which I was born!:)
Birthdays are cool and all but I just want to say that even though it's really nice to be splurged on and to enjoy luxurious things, I don't really expect people to give me expensive things or to throw me an insanely amazing party for my birthday.
Because to me, friendship is not 'measured' by gifts, but by effort. So in saying that, I am more than happy if you give/send me a card (how quaint!), or if you don't know me that well or can't really be bothered to make one (I always love handmade/unique cards though), you could just wish me a hearty happy birthday like you mean it and I'll be contented.
I just think that your act of friendship/love shouldn't be confined to one year. In fact, I wouldn't mind being given gifts the whole year round! Hint hint.
That said, I always appreciate a well thought-out gift so either way is fine. As they say, it's the thought that counts!
(Or maybe the reason for this post is that I'm just trying to rationalise the fact that I've been getting lesser and lesser presents every year and I'm consoling myself by saying that I don't really want 'gifts' anyway. Hmm. Tricky.)
